Every year we
implement new systems to lessen any negative environmental
impact of the Madison Marathon on our beautiful city. The Madison Marathon is recognized as a "Runner's World" GreenTeam race and we're FitPlanet.com approved. This
year we are:
- Offering runners a virtual goody bag.
- Handing bottled water to runners at the finish line only,
which is a controlled environment where garbage
will be collected and recycled. Pepsi is also contributing
to this effort by supplying the finish line with additional
recycle containers.
- Delivering gallon jugs of water to the water stations and then taking the containers to be recycled.
- Offering runners t-shirts made from a blend of recycled and/or sustainable materials.
- Start and Finish Lines are at the same location so no shuttles are necessary.
- Giving runners the opportunity to drop off their
old shoes for recycling at the Expo.
- Prompting runners and walkers to register for races online.
- Offering links to Ride Share services on our website:
www.rideshare.us.
- Collecting discarded clothes and donating them to charitable
organizations.
- Asking runners, walkers and spectators to please be aware
of the space around them. Help us keep Madison gorgeous
and green by putting trash in proper receptacles.
