The full marathon is 26.2 miles; the half-marathon
is 13.1 miles; and the quarter-marathon is 6.55 miles (that's
10.54 K).

Yes, the 2008 course will be measured and certified.

How many runners do you expect? We expect approx. 1,500 marathon and 2,500 half marathon runners. There are no registration caps for any race category.

What awards are given?
Finisher medals will be given to all participants of the Marathon and Half Marathon that complete the race.

Awards by Age Category
Age group award plaques will be given to the top 3 men and women for the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k, in the following age categories: 19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70 and over.
One Award Per Person
Top 3 male and female finishers in each race category will be announced at 11:30 am at the Brat Fest entertainment stage.

Can I wear headphones, bring my dog, ride a bicycle, or push a stroller?
We understand that many runners need headphones to aid in their running concentration, or distraction. Headphones are allowed but not recommended for safety purposes. Dogs, strollers and bicycles are not allowed, strictly for safety reasons.

When can I pick up my race packet?
Race packets will be available Saturday, May 24th at the Health and Fitness Expo at Alliant Energy Center . Please note: There will be no race-day packet pick-up.

Is there a limit on the number of runners? When is the last day I can register?
There is no registration cap for any of the races. Online registration will be available through Active.com from November 1, 2007 through May 24, 2008 . Runners may also register at the Health and Fitness Expo on Saturday, May 24. However, race weekend registration fees increase by $10. Please note : There will be no race-day registration for any of the 2008 races.

How will course conditions be communicated during the race?
Emergency Procedures -- Colored flags will be located at each water station and at the finish line area to alert runners to changing course and weather conditions. In cases of emergency, please follow the instructions below. In rare instances, it may be necessary to either close the race course or re-route participants. If this occurs, it is being done for the safety of the participants and volunteers.
- Green Flag – Conditions are normal
- Yellow Flag – The heat index is at a point that runners/walkers should slow down and drink plenty of water.
- Red Flag – Dangerous weather. Runners and walkers should slow down and drink plenty of water. Timing of the event has been stopped and no awards will be given out after this action has taken place. Volunteers should stand by for instructions from staff/coordinators.
- Black Flag – Race has been cancelled due to extreme weather or course emergency. Events such as lightning, tornado or human disaster has or is occurring and all participants, staff and volunteers need to seek shelter immediately.

Will there be a shuttle service available?
Yes, a free shuttle will be available for runners and spectators on race day. Shuttles will pick up at AlliantEnergyCenter in front of the Exhibition Hall (southeast parking lot) and will drop runners/spectators at Capitol Square. Shuttles will run continuously between locations 5:30am-3:00pm. Map of Alliant Energy Center.

Where should I park?
Free parking will be available at AlliantEnergyCenter in the southeast parking lot. Runners/spectators are encouraged to park in this lot Saturday (for the expo) and Sunday (race day). Shuttles will run from this lot to the start line on Sunday.

Will
sweats storage be available?
Yes, volunteers will collect your sweats in vehicles on Capitol
Square next to the start line. Sweats will be transported
to the finish line runners’ village where participants
can pick them up after the race. Be sure you put your bib
number on your sweats bag if using this service!

What
is your cancellation policy?
The Madison Marathon's is not able to offer refunds, however
runners who contact us before March 15, 2008 can receive a
certificate for participation in next year's race (2009).
After March 15, certificates will only be issued in cases
of injury where a doctor's note is required. For more information,
contact the main number.

Are
walkers welcome?
The Madison Marathon course is open until 1:05pm (6 hours
after the full marathon begins). Any walker/runner who feels
they can complete the course in this time is welcome to register.

time do the races start?
The wheelchair marathon begins at 7:05 a.m., the full at 7:10
a.m., the half at 7:25 a.m., quarter at 7:45 a.m., kids run
